Recording Beep

Let callers know the call is being recorded.

Recording Beep plays a short tone during calls so callers know the conversation is being recorded. Choose the departments and call types, set a delay before the first beep, and play it once or repeat it at an interval. In version 20 it is part of Audio Announcer.

  • Settings for each department
  • Inbound, outbound and queue calls
  • Your own .wav tone
How it sounds on a call

A short tone on your timing, once or all through the call.

You decide when the first beep plays and whether it comes back. Both are set in seconds.

  1. Initial delay

    A quiet start

Set how many seconds pass before the first beep, for example 10 seconds.

  2. The beep

    Your tone plays

The .wav file you uploaded plays. A short, neutral tone of one to two seconds works well.

  3. Frequency

    Again, or just once

Repeat the beep at the interval you set, for example every 5 seconds, or tick Play Once to play it a single time.

Per department

Beep where you record, and nowhere else.

Every department or queue gets its own row in one grid, with its own settings.

  1. Active

Turn the beep on or off for each department or queue.

  2. Inbound

Play it on calls coming in to that department.

  3. Outbound

Play it on calls that department makes.

  4. Queue calls

Play it on queue calls for that department or queue.

Where it helps

For teams that record their calls.

Banks and financial institutions

Calls recorded for quality and regulatory reasons get an audible beep, so clients hear that the call is being recorded.

Customer support centers

Turn the beep on for support queues that record calls for training and quality, and let it repeat through longer calls.

Legal and medical offices

Let clients and patients hear that a call is being recorded, alongside the notices your office already gives.

Teams that call out

Switch the beep on for outbound calls only, for the departments that make them.

Anything else? Our team answers 24/7 from the USA, India and the Philippines.

Is Recording Beep part of Audio Announcer?+
Yes, for 3CX version 20. Recording Beep is part of Audio Announcer, together with Agent Greetings and Barge Messages, and its setup is covered in the Audio Announcer V20 documentation.
Does the beep help with recording disclosure rules?+
It is designed to help you comply with call recording disclosure rules, and you control the delay and how often it repeats. It is not legal advice, so use it alongside the notices and consent steps your location and industry require.
Can each department have different settings?+
Yes. Each department or queue has its own row, with its own choice of call types, delay and repeat interval.
Who can change the beep settings?+
Role access permissions decide which roles can see and change the Recording Beep page. You can reset a role to its original permissions at any time.
Can we use our own beep sound?+
Yes. Upload a .wav file and assign it. A short, neutral tone of one to two seconds works well.
Is it included in the VoIPTools Subscription?+
Yes. Recording Beep is included in the VoIPTools Subscription along with 30+ other add-ons for 3CX.
Will it work with my 3CX?+
It works with 3CX version 20. It runs alongside 3CX on its own Windows server and connects through the VoIPTools Relay. Ask us and we will confirm your setup.
Can you set it up or run it for us?+
Yes. Our paid Installation Support can set everything up end to end. If you prefer not to host it yourself, we can run your VoIPTools add-ons on AWS with monitoring around the clock and keep them updated.
