Enhanced Billing Codes
Tie every outbound call to the client you bill.
Enhanced Billing Codes asks for a billing code before an outbound call is placed, checks it against your valid codes, and logs the call with its duration and cost for reports by client, department or extension.
- Required codes on outbound calls
- Cost reports by code, department or extension
- 3CX Pro or Enterprise version 20
How a billing code gets onto every call.
Staff place outbound calls through two short extensions. The code is checked before the call goes out, and the call is logged for reporting when it ends.
Dial 8 or 9
Dial 8 to be guided by spoken prompts, or 9 for a single beep and no prompts once you know the routine.
Enter the billing code
The code is checked against your list of valid account codes. On 8, it is read back so you can confirm it.
Enter the number
The phone number is checked against any restrictions set on that account code.
The call is placed
After validation, the call is placed automatically.
It lands in your reports
The call is logged with its code, duration and cost, ready to report by account code, department, extension and date.
The shortcut on 9: after the beep, dial your code, then **, then the number, then #. For example, 12345**8016424655#.
See what each client, department and extension costs.
Run a report for any date range, for every account, one department or one account code. Durations and costs are calculated for you, which makes invoicing and charge backs simpler.
- Costs you setPre-assign a cost for outbound calls by country, area code or down to specific phone numbers.
- Grouped your wayGroup the report by year, month, department, code and extension, with sums at each level.
- Reports by emailOwners get automatic reports for their own account codes, daily or monthly. Global addresses get every account.
- ExportExport the report or the call log to CSV, XLSX or PDF.
A report grouped by year, month, department, code and extension, with a sum at each level.
Decide what each account code is allowed to dial.
Account codes can also define the types of calls permitted. For example, a lobby phone's code can allow only calls to specific extensions, and another code can limit international calls to specific countries or numbers.
- Number lengthBlock calls to numbers shorter than the minimum or longer than the maximum number of digits.
- Blocked prefixesBlock calls that start with prefixes you list, separated by commas.
- Fixed or open lengthRequire every code to be the same length, or set the length to 0 for codes of any length.
- Retire codes safelyUncheck Active on a code you no longer use, so past reports stay correct.

Made for teams that bill or charge back phone time.
Attorneys and consultants
Bill clients for your time on the phone. Every outbound call carries the client's code, with its duration and cost.
Department charge backs
Track the cost of calls by department and charge them back from the report.
Collections teams
Collectors enter the customer's billing code when they place each call, so every call is linked to the account.
Lobby and shared phones
Give a shared phone a code that only permits calls to specific extensions.
Know where your telecom costs come from.
Codes are enforced
Your 3CX administrator sets outbound rules that reject calls not placed through Enhanced Billing Codes, so calls dialed directly on a phone are rejected.
An extra layer of security
Calls need a valid account code as well as the extension, and each code can carry its own restrictions.
Administrators and agents
Administrators manage codes, owners, reports and settings. Agents can view, filter and export the call log.
Scheduled reports
Choose the report time and days, and reports are emailed automatically.
