Auto Self-ID

Every name in your company directory, recorded for you.

Auto Self-ID checks 3CX for extensions with no self-identification message and creates one with text-to-speech, on a schedule or whenever you choose Run Now.

  • Windows TTS, Amazon Polly or OpenAI voices
  • Pronounce or spell each name
  • Scheduled or on demand
Why it helps

No more chasing people to record their names.

Asking everyone to record
With Auto Self-ID
Remind every new hire to record a name
Missing names are found and recorded automatically
Follow up with the people who never did
Runs on a schedule, typically every night
Gaps in the company directory
Everyone listed in the company directory

Company directory

Makes sure everyone is listed in the company directory.

Less administration

Saves the time of managing everyone's self-identification by hand.

Kept up to date

New extensions are picked up on the next scheduled run.

How it works

It finds the missing names and records them for you.

To be listed in the 3CX company directory, each extension needs a self-identification message. Auto Self-ID checks for the missing ones and creates them with text-to-speech, typically every night.

  • Pronounce or spellHave each person's full name pronounced, or spelled out letter by letter.
  • Choose the voicePick Windows TTS, Amazon Polly or OpenAI, then the voice that fits your business.
  • Set the scheduleChoose the time of day it runs, or select Run Now to update right away.
  • Custom promptsCreate your own Auto Self-ID prompts, added in the December 2024 update.
For your callers

Let callers reach people by name, and hear who they found.

Give a 3CX call menu a Call by Name option, and callers hear the full name that Auto Self-ID recorded.

  1. Reach the call menu

The caller dials the call menu and presses the key set for Call by Name.

  2. Enter three letters

They key in the first three letters of the person's last name.

  3. Pick from matches

If more than one last name matches, they press 0, 1 or 2 to choose.

  4. Hear the full name

The call menu plays the person's full name, recorded by Auto Self-ID.

Set it up in the 3CX console under Call Handling, by adding a digital receptionist with the Call By Name action.

Auto Self-ID is included in the VoIPTools Subscription.

One subscription gets you Auto Self-ID and 30+ other add-ons for 3CX.

Voices

Three voice engines, one setting.

Choose one in Voice Settings, then pick the voice.

  1. Windows TTS

Uses the voices installed on your Windows computer. Choose the culture, gender and voice.

  2. Amazon Polly

A large selection of languages and voices. Connect it with your Amazon Web Services ID and key.

  3. OpenAI

Choose the voice, model and speed. Connect it with your OpenAI API address and key.

Anything else? Our team answers 24/7 from the USA, India and the Philippines.

What is a self-identification message?+
It is a short recording of a person's name. In 3CX, each extension needs one to be listed in the company directory.
Which extensions does it record?+
Auto Self-ID checks for extensions that are missing a self-identification message and creates one for each of them.
Which voices can I use?+
Windows TTS with the voices installed on your computer, Amazon Polly with a large selection of languages and voices, or OpenAI. Amazon Polly and OpenAI need your own account keys.
Can it spell names instead of saying them?+
Yes. Set Voice Actions to Pronounce to say the full name, or to Spell to spell it letter by letter.
When does it run?+
At the time of day you set in the Scheduled Timer, typically nightly. Select Run Now whenever you want to update right away.
What do I need to run it?+
3CX version 20 and a Windows computer running alongside 3CX, connected through the VoIPTools Relay. The full list is under Requirements above.
